The Coldest Night of the Year is a winterrific family-friendly fundraising walk in support of local charities. Let’s change the tune for people experiencing hurt, hunger, and homelessness... because it’s cold out there.
In DuPage County, the Agency operates Kathy Paulsen Hope House, an 18-bed homeless shelter. The shelter operates year-round, 24 hours a day, and is a unique program for homeless persons in situations such as job loss, poor credit, depleted savings, eviction, illness, or loss of household income. During an 8-10 week stay in a home-like setting, families remain intact, and residents work to secure employment and permanent housing. Residents receive three healthy meals a day as well as case management, counseling, employment services, affordable housing search and advocacy, budget management, and financial literacy programming. Residents have individualized service plans and are accountable for obtaining six job contacts daily as well as housing contacts once reliable income has been obtained. Eligible persons are assisted with enrollment in mainstream benefits to conserve financial resources.
