The Coldest Night of the Year is a winterrific family-friendly fundraising walk in support of local charities. Let’s change the tune for people experiencing hurt, hunger, and homelessness... because it’s cold out there.
American Rescue Workers is a non-profit organization providing life-saving interventions to those experiencing food insecurity or homelessness in Central Pennsylvania since 1934.
At American Rescue Workers, we operate three homeless shelters including a 24-bed family emergency shelter for men, women, and children (Saving Grace Shelter), a 39-bed men’s long-term work therapy program (Fresh Start), and a 6-bed men’s emergency shelter at our Elmira Street location.
Our Social Services Center serves as the prevention entity of the organization, where we provide financial and food assistance to those in need to prevent a homeless crisis. Annually, through the Social Services Center, we provide hundreds of households with rental and utility assistance, nearly half a million pounds of groceries to 1,000 families each month facing food insecurity, and $25,000 annually in vouchers for clothing and furniture. American Rescue Workers' programs are funded through the resale and recycling of donated goods and by the generous support of our donors.
